Wi3 "Best of CES Innovations 2012"   Wi3 Named Best of CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Award Honoree ROCHESTER, NY — November 9, 2011 — Wi3 today announced that it has been named an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Award Honoree for the WiFi version of its WiPNET in-wall networking product series. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 32 product categories. Wi3’s patented WiPNET Series will be displayed at the 2012 International CES, which runs January 10-13, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Selected as an honoree and the winner of the home networking product category, the WiFi WiPNET port is a true revolution in home networking technology. Without disrupting any existing Cable TV or Satellite services in place, WiPNET utilizes the existing coax cable already in the walls of tens of millions of homes and commercial properties, to provide a fast, innovative solution to what was once a complicated, costly and time-intensive process. Now the freedom of WiFi and dependability of wired Internet can be delivered to multiple locations around a home, apartment, hotel or office via the self-configuring WiPNET ports. Whether plugged into an IPTV, PC or HDTV, additional WiPNET ports are automatically configured to maximize the reliability, speed and simplicity of wired Web connections or wireless access points tethered to a wired backbone. Advantages to WiPNET include its ease of set-up; its creative “cartridge & sleeve” product design that allow cartridges with various technology solutions to be swapped based on connection needs; and its elimination of network delays when multiple media formats are simultaneously in use, meaning no more dropped connections while gaming, streaming movies, watching IPTV or using any array of connected Apple or PC devices. “To compete with the likes of Belkin, Cisco, D-Link, NETGEAR and others, and win… we’re honored just to have been compared, but we really think it speaks volumes to the market potential of WiPNET,” commented Bill Thompson, CEO of Wi3. “And as Internet-based services continue to migrate toward delivery through the TV, we believe this product will not only be adopted as the industry standard, but that it will become the platform for the cable industry and beyond.” - more - About Wi3 Inc Founded in 2008, by CEO Bill Thompson, Wi3 Inc., is committed to the design and development of world-class digital networking products. "Taming the HDMI Beast" with Eric Bodley  "Taming the HDMI Beast" by Eric Bodley, VP Consumer Electronics Perfect Path Most retailers, integrators and custom installers I come in contact with agree — HDMI is one of the most controversial cable technologies ever introduced... From interoperability issues to different version numbers (1.2, 1.3, 1.3a, 1.3b, 1.4, etc.) to features such as 3D, audio Eric Bodley, Perfect Path return channel, Ethernet channel and high bit color, it’s no wonder that most installers would rather just stick with analog component video and stereo audio cables. There is hope, however. On April 21st, I’ll be hosting two webinars titled HDMI: Best Practices from the Field covering updated information on the best tips, tricks and all around strategies for installing, commissioning, servicing & troubleshooting HDMI installs in the field. Morning Session: 8:30am PST (1 hour) Click Here to Register Afternoon Session: 1pm PST (1 hour) Click Here to Register But since April 21st is a few weeks from now... Until then, I wanted to share a couple of tips you might find useful: ● Set up and test the equipment you are installing BEFORE you get to the site. I know this sounds pretty basic, but many of the HDMI issues that I get calls on involve "existing" products the customer already owns that were incorporated into the installation with "new" products. Insist on getting all the products together and test them with all the cables and devices you are planning to use in the installation. It’s better to solve any issues before you get to the jobsite – and a lot less expensive. ● HDMI over CAT5e/Cat6 baluns is not a universal solution. One comment that came up in a conversation that I thought was insightful on HDMI over Cat5e/Cat6 solutions was that "there are (low-cost) HDMI baluns that work some of the time, and (higher-cost) HDMI baluns that work most of the time, but none that work all the time." There are some great solutions out there, but they are not cheap. Oh, and other thing — don’t forget to spec two HDMI cables along with any balun solution you spec. (Our 2ft Locking Cables are Perfect!) ● All HDMI cables are NOT created equal. Short length cables (under 10ft/3m) are generally not an issue as long as they comply with the HDMI 1.4 specification (now referred to as "High Speed HDMI Cables"). But once you go beyond 12ft/4m, you need to verify the cable will meet the performance needs of your system design. HDMI 1.3 cables do not necessarily meet the 1.4 specification and may not have enough bandwidth to pass 3D, 8-bit/12-bit color, Audio Return Channel, or Ethernet Channel... All features now becoming more amd more common in the newest HDMI connected gear. One final thing I recommend as a universal solution, and one that is proven to reduce service calls and unnecessary truck-rolls, is Perfect Path’s High-Speed Locking HDMI Cables. Designed with PPC’s patented Locking HDMI Connector providing 28 lbs of retention and awarded the DPL Labs Seal of Approval, they are certified to perform. (Lengths range from 2ft to 50ft, in-wall rated.) I look forward to sharing more info with you on April 21st. Eric Bodley is also a former President of CEDIA and will be touring with the rest of our partner vendors as a Keynote Speaker for the 2011 New Technology Tour.
